Departing Mt Barker 10am – arriving Goolwa 11:45am. Departing Goolwa 4:15pm – arriving Mt Barker 6:05pm. Leaving Mt Barker the train climbs up to the crest of the line then winds down the eastern escarpment of the southern Mt Lofty ranges, passing through several long abandoned station sites from a century ago. Crossing the Angus River and through the historic town of Strathalbyn.
The journey then continues southwards across the plains and well away from the main road, native bushland unfolds, kangaroos and other animals might be seen trying to keep pace with the passing trains. Then across the towering Currency Creek viaduct and onto Goolwa, alongside the river wharf.
Allowing 4 hours to explore the local attractions, you can have a picnic lunch on the riverside, enjoy lunch at one of the hotels, or at one of the many bakeries.
