The MOTM Christmas Lunch got off to a great start, thanks to the fabulous weather that greeted us on Sunday, November 27.
A large group of magnificent Mustangs gathered at the Sporting Car Club in Unley, ready for the Run to North Haven. Approximately 30 Mustangs (and daily drivers) travelled along Greenhill Road and through Hindmarsh, doing our best to safely traverse the roadworks forming part of the South Road extension. Mustangs spanning almost six decades were a magnificent sight as the cars stretched out along Port Road and many onlookers stopped to watch the cars travel through Port Adelaide, along the Esplanade and Semaphore and finish in North Haven.
Driving through Semaphore’s popular, one-day-of-the-year Christmas Market made for some interesting interactions with pedestrians (and with one set of flashing traffic lights). Several passers-by were overheard making cash offers to drivers of their favourite Mustangs though, fortunately, no-one took them seriously and so everyone arrived at the Cruising Yacht Club of SA ready to enjoy a magnificent, buffet Christmas Lunch. Seated in the air conditioned comfort of the dining room, one couldn’t help but notice the stunning views over the Marina.
With a private area reserved for our club and three long, banquet-style tables adorned with Christmas Bon-Bons and candy canes, the formalities were quickly covered off so that lunch could be served. At the buffet table, guests were presented with an assortment of delicious hot and cold food. Turkey, pork, seafood, pasta, salads and delicious seasonal fruit, cakes and really… who could resist those mini pavlovas?
Early on there was (almost) a security scare when one Committee Member was stopped by staff – he/she denied trying to smuggle a tray of 40 mini pavs out into the car park! It really was an excellent afternoon and all 82 attendees enjoyed the opportunity to get to know new members and to catch up with old friends.
Everybody was in high spirits and the overwhelmingly positive feedback guests provided reinforced what a wonderful day it was. A sincere ‘thank you’ goes to Mario and the staff for their courteous and professional service.
Mustangs On The Move looks forward to returning to the Cruising Yacht Club of SA another day.
