January in Adelaide is a month with a reputation for very warm weather and January 16, 2016 did not disappoint! Fortunately ‘Mustangers’ are a resilient breed so the heat did not deter the 32 cars that rolled into Castle Plaza Shopping Centre, keen to head to Kuitpo Forest.
Our destination was club members, Tony and Brenda Days’ lovely home, where a BBQ was on the agenda, along with a chance to check out a stable of magnificent vehicles. It is safe to say that Tony and Brenda are keen on all things Mustang and, in fact, unless there is a Blue Oval on a vehicle it has trouble getting through the gate. The setting was perfect with Mustangs wall to wall (there’s even a Mustang in the living room), a beautiful garden setting and a welcome, cool breeze.
The grounds were a hive of activity with so much to see, including a Saleen Mustang, a Parnelli Jones edition, a ’66 Shelby fastback, a XW Falcon GT and a Thunderbird Convertible all housed in spotless stables and surrounded by great motoring memorabilia, including a wheel from Craig Lowndes’ V8 Supercar. Norm Howard got the BBQ started and, although it took some coaxing, after a couple of calls people started to drift in for food (it was a noticeable struggle to convince them to leave the cars!).
The BBQ also included a tempting range of home-made desserts and feedback tells us that the event really was a huge success. It was a pleasure to present a ‘Welcome Pack’ to new members Vanessa and Terry Hann who, along with son, Jesse, joined us for their first club run.
My thanks go to the dedicated group of people who worked hard to ensure the evening ran well, with a special “thank you” going to Brenda and Tony for the warmth and hospitality they showed in opening their home to us.
