It was the day before Valentine’s Day when we headed off on a cruise to the Barossa Valley with other MOTM club members. I was lucky enough to have my favourite navigator on board for this run when my wife, Lyn, came along as an early Valentine’s Day surprise.
We travelled north, thinking (wrongly, as it turned out) that the group’s meeting point was at Firle Shopping Centre. Lyn and I were feeling quite pleased with ourselves when we arrived early. We saw several Mustangs but, strangely it seemed, none that I recognised… time passed and a niggling doubt started to creep in so I phoned the Run Organiser, only to be told we were waiting at the wrong shopping centre! The trip from Firle to Ingle Farm Shopping Centre was completed in record time and we were relieved to find everyone still there when we arrived.
Endre Papp had, by this time, been entrusted with overseeing the Run and so we knew we were in safe hands, given his record of success at leading previous MOTM runs along some fabulous Barossa roads.
Around 15 Mustangs set off via Bridge Road along to the Grove and on to Main North Road, a straightforward route around the Bypass then on to Sturt Highway and to Tanunda. The trip was even more enjoyable because of the great weather. When we arrived in Tanunda it was wonderful to see more Mustangs waiting to meet us. With Shelbys and GT’s, most makes and years were well represented. Passers-by couldn’t help but be impressed when they saw both the car park and the street filled with stunning Mustangs.
Our destination for dinner on this run was a favourite of the club, the Valley Hotel in Murray Street, Tanunda. The Dining Room was filled with MOTM members and their partners/guests and, as with previous visits, the food was excellent. Conversations ran well into the evening and, by all reports, a great time was had by all who attended!
Everyone headed home at the end of the evening and, given I enjoy open road driving, Lyn and I travelled back via the Northern Expressway. We arrived home in record time and both agreed this had been a terrific night. We’ll be keen to do it again next time, that’s for sure.
