As this was certainly an event ‘out of the ordinary’ for our club, it was the ideal opportunity to build on the club’s donation to the Cancer Council of SA.
$5 from each member/guest included a BBQ lunch and the opportunity to win a flight with Barry. The Club would supply the BBQ and Barry was donating the flight, so all monies raised would go to charity.
It was open to friends and relatives so that we could be confident of good support on the day. Well, we soon forgot about “good support”!
With 34 Mustangs, there was something for everyone, including 5 new Mustangs, 2007/8s, 2002, along with ’65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 and ’71. Other modes of transport were parked by the trees.
The weather was perfect, a little overcast, not too much wind and no rain. Thanks go out to the car park attendants, cooks, food servers and to all who helped. The day included a great BBQ with salads and fabulous coffee but the real superstars were surely the aircraft. Four Tiger Moths, a Foxbat, Skyfox, Chipmunk, Maule, Piper Pacer, Emeraude and other planes, including a replica Spitfire, flew above the air field during the day. It was a fantastic experience!
Host, Barry, announced that Daniel would also kindly provide a flight in his Tiger Moth. Daniel works for Qantas and had his Tiger Moth on display. Thanks, Daniel, for such a generous offer.
Henry Conlon and Amanda Walkley were the lucky raffle winners. After a safety briefing (and a fair bit of ribbing from the crowd of onlookers) the pilots and passengers taxied out to enjoy their flight.
All agreed the sight of those two beautiful and historic aircraft flying overhead was something to treasure.
The Club’s sincere thanks go to the Hills Family & friends for their incredible generosity and hospitality. The positive feedback from members was overwhelming and, thanks to the support of members, guests and our external suppliers, the Club was proud to be able to donate a further $892 to the Cancer Council of SA.
