Opening the front door on April 17, I was greeted with sunshine and I took that to be the first indication that the 2016 McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic event would be a success, just as long as the Mustang would start first time. Kay and I met other MOTM members at Noarlunga and, as soon as the Northern contingent arrived, we headed off towards the lovely setting at Serafino Wines in McLaren Vale.
We spent more than an hour at Serafino and, for much of that time, we were either drooling over other makes of cars, chatting to fellow members or recognising familiar faces. Then, on the Starter’s orders, our cars all left en mass and headed back towards the main street of McLaren Vale where the majority of spectators seem to like to stand and watch the parade of cars stream past.
The event continues to get bigger and better each year with thousands lining the streets to watch the parade. It would be interesting to know how long it takes the parade to pass a given point – perhaps someone will volunteer to work that out in 2017.
We ended up with an impressive tally of around 40 Mustangs on arrival at Paxton Vineyard, mindful that not all of the Mustangs were involved in the street parade. Everyone was impressed by the stunning setting that greeted us at Paxton and the feedback received about that day overwhelmingly supported those comments.
The venue was simply perfect. When I was wandering around gazing at amazing cars, new and old, I could not decide which, out of the cars, sunshine, music, food, wine or great company was the best but my efforts to identify a clear winner meant that Mrs Bunting had to drive the Mustang home!
My thanks go to all who attended the event in 2016. I very much hope to welcome you all back to McLaren Vale again next year.
